पार्टी के वरिष्ठ नेता कपिल सिब्बल ने तो यहां तक कह दिया था कि उन्हें तो यह भी नहीं पता कि अब पार्टी का नेता कौन है. गुलाम नबी आजाद ने सोनिया गांधी को पत्र लिखकर तत्काल कार्यसमिति की बैठक की मांग की थी। कांग्रेस पार्टी का कहना है कि राष्ट्रपति और संगठनात्मक चुनावों पर कार्य समिति में निर्णय पार्टी में निर्धारित प्रक्रिया के अनुसार होगा और जो लोग सोचते हैं कि पार्टी के पास अध्यक्ष नहीं है, कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी हैं।
