शहर में टायर चोर गिरोह की हरकतें रुक नहीं पा रही हैं। जब लोग गहरी नींद की आगोश में होते हैं, तो चोर कारों के टायर चुरा ले जाते हैं। बीती रात भी एनआईटी एक और फ्रूट गार्डन से चोरों ने आधा दर्जन कारों के टायर चुरा लिए। शहर में आए दिन चोर कारों से टायर चुरा रहे हैं। सबसे ज्यादा टायर चोरी की घटनाएं एनआईटी एक, पांच और फ्रूट गार्डन में हो रही हैं। बीती रात एनआईटी एक में 4 कारों के टायर चोरी हो गए। फ्रूट गार्डन इलाके से भी 2 कारों के टायर चुरा लिए गए। इनमें एक कार डॉ. रीमा कपूर की है। सुबह जब लोग जाकर घरों से बाहर आए तो कार के टायर गायब मिले और कार ईंट या जैक पर खड़ी मिली। इससे पहले 20-21 अगस्त की रात को भी टायर चोरी की कई घटनाएं हुई थीं।
आधी रात को हो रही झमाझम बारिश भी कार के टायर चोरी करने वाले गिरोह के बदमाशों को अपने काम से नहीं रोक पाई। चोरों ने एनआइटी व कोतवाली थाना क्षेत्र में 20-21 अगस्त की रात घर के बाहर खड़ी तीन कार के टायर चोरी कर लिए। एनआइटी-5ई में गुरमीत सिंह ने अपनी क्रेटा कार को घर के बाहर पार्किग में खड़ा किया था। सुबह नींद से जागे, तो देखा कार जैक पर खड़ी थी और चारों पहिये गायब थे। कोतवाली थाना एरिया में भी एनआइटी-1ए मार्केट स्थित सरताज फर्नीचर वालों की वरना कार घर के बाहर खड़ी हुई थी। रात में चोर चारों टायर खोलकर कार को ईंटों पर खड़ा करके चले गए। इसी क्षेत्र में चोरों ने भगतां दी हट्टी वालों की कार के भी चारों पहिए चोरी किए।
एक महीने के अंदर 25 से अधिक कार के टायर चोरी हो चुके हैं। कुछ सीसीटीवी फुटैज से पता चला कि चोर सुबह 3 से 4 के बीच ऐसी वारदात करते हैं, उस समय लोग गहरी नींद में होते हैं। कारों को पहले ईंटों या जैक पर खड़ी करते हैं। फिर उनके टायर खोल लेते हैं। सुबह लोग उठकर देखते हैं, तो ईंटों पर खड़ी कारें देखकर सन्न रह जाते हैं। वे बीएमडब्ल्यू, होंडा सिटी और वरना जैसी महंगी कारों को अपना निशाना बनाते हैं। लोग पुलिस में शिकायतें कर रहे हैं, लेकिन अभी तक चोर पुलिस के हत्थे नहीं चढ़े हैं। इससे पुलिस की जमकर किरकिरी हो रही है। दरअसल जिन चोरों के हुलिए सामने आए हैं, वे नए खिलाड़ी हो सकते हैं। इसलिए पुलिस उन्हें नहीं पकड़ पा रही है।
