2022 के आगामी महीनों में राज्य में विधानसभा चुनाव होने को देखते हुए इस रैली का समय महत्वपूर्ण है। कांग्रेस 2017 के विधानसभा चुनावों से अपनी खोई हुई जमीन को मजबूत करने के लिए उत्सुक होगी। वर्तमान में, 70 सदस्यीय विधानसभा में कांग्रेस के पास 11 सीटें हैं, जबकि भाजपा के पास 57 हैं। प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने 4 दिसंबर को देहरादून में ही उत्तराखंड में एक चुनावी कार्यक्रम को संबोधित किया। हालांकि राहुल गांधी की रैली पूर्व सैनिकों के अभिनंदन के लिए है, लेकिन इसे 2022 के उत्तराखंड चुनाव के संदर्भ से बाहर नहीं देखा जा सकता है।
भारत 1971 के युद्ध के दौरान पाकिस्तान पर अपनी जीत के उपलक्ष्य में 16 दिसंबर को विजय दिवस के रूप में मनाता है जिसके कारण बांग्लादेश का जन्म हुआ। इस दिन को भारतीय और बांग्लादेशी सैनिकों की बहादुरी के लिए याद किया जाता है।
कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी ने भी 1971 के मुक्ति संग्राम की पूर्व संध्या पर कांग्रेस द्वारा आयोजित एक कार्यक्रम में मुख्य भाषण दिया। सोनिया गांधी ने इस अवसर पर भारत की तत्कालीन प्रधान मंत्री इंदिरा गांधी को याद किया और कहा, “यह कहना अतिशयोक्ति नहीं होगी कि 1971, कई मायनों में, इंदिरा गांधी का सबसे बेहतरीन वर्ष था – जिसकी शुरुआत मार्च में उन्हें मिले बड़े जनादेश से हुई।
