गांगुली ने पीटीआई के हवाले से कहा, “हमने आधिकारिक तौर पर आईसीसी को सूचित कर दिया है कि टी 20 विश्व कप को संयुक्त अरब अमीरात में स्थानांतरित किया जा सकता है। विवरण तैयार किया जा रहा है।” यह फैसला तब आया है जब ICC ने BCCI को महीने की शुरुआत में चार सप्ताह का समय दिया था, यह तय करने और सूचित करने के लिए कि क्या भारत देश में COVID-19 स्थिति को देखते हुए मार्की इवेंट की मेजबानी कर सकता है।
बीसीसीआई द्वारा यूएई में शेष आईपीएल 2021 को पुनर्निर्धारित करने का फैसला करने के कुछ ही महीने बाद यह बदलाव आया है। टूर्नामेंट को पहले मई की शुरुआत में अनिश्चित काल के लिए स्थगित कर दिया गया था क्योंकि कई फ्रेंचाइजी के बायो बबल का उल्लंघन हुआ था और खिलाड़ियों और स्टाफ के सदस्यों ने भारत में विनाशकारी दूसरी लहर के दौरान कोविड -19 के लिए सकारात्मक परीक्षण किया था।
