श्रीलंका/जीजेडी न्यूज: श्रीलंका के राष्ट्रपति गोतबाया राजपक्षे ने शुक्रवार को आपातकाल की स्थिति घोषित कर दी, जिसके एक दिन बाद सैकड़ों लोगों ने उनके आवास पर धावा बोलने की कोशिश की, समाचार एजेंसी एएफपी ने बताया। यह फैसला ऐसे समय में आया है जब देश अभूतपूर्व आर्थिक संकट का सामना कर रहा है।

स्वतंत्रता वित्तीय वर्ष 1948 के बाद से अपने सबसे गंभीर मंदी में, श्रीलंका को विदेशी मुद्रा संकट के कारण रसोई गैस सहित आवश्यक वस्तुओं की भारी कमी का सामना करना पड़ रहा है। कीमतों में तेज उछाल आया है। मीडिया रिपोर्ट्स के मुताबिक, बिजली की कटौती दिन में 13 घंटे तक चलती है, देश में ईंधन का स्टॉक खत्म हो जाता है और सरकार के पास इसके आयात के लिए कोई विदेशी मुद्रा नहीं बची है।
गुरुवार को कोलंबो में राष्ट्रपति राजपक्षे के आवास के सामने गुस्साए प्रदर्शनकारी उनके इस्तीफे की मांग को लेकर जमा हो गए। उन्होंने सरकार के “घोर कुप्रबंधन” पर खराब आर्थिक स्थिति को दोष देते हुए नारेबाजी की।
प्रदर्शनकारियों द्वारा गोटाबाया के आवास के पास रखे गए एक स्टील बैरिकेड को नीचे खींचने के बाद पुलिस ने आंसू गैस के गोले दागे और वाटर कैनन का इस्तेमाल किया।
मीडिया रिपोर्टों में कहा गया है कि अधिकारियों ने उस दिन की शुरुआत में राजधानी कोलंबो शहर और अन्य शहरों के कई हिस्सों में स्ट्रीट लाइट बंद कर दी थी।
स्थिति इतनी खराब है कि कई सरकारी अस्पतालों में आवश्यक जीवन रक्षक दवाओं से बाहर होने की सूचना है और उन्होंने सर्जरी करना बंद कर दिया है।
राजपक्षे कहते रहे हैं कि आर्थिक मंदी काफी हद तक महामारी के कारण हुई थी, और यह उनका नहीं है।
फरवरी में मुद्रास्फीति बढ़कर 17.5% हो गई, और इसके और भी बढ़ने की उम्मीद है, देश के सेंट्रल बैंक ने पहले कहा था।
