यहां गिरा था देवी का योनि भाग, आज भी बहती है जल की धार-
ऐसा बताया जाता है कि त्रिलोकीनाथ भगवान शिव से क्रोधित होकर सती ने विनाशकारी तांडव नृत्य धारण किया था। सती ने धरती को नष्ट करने की भी चेतावनी दी थी। उसी क्रोध में आकर भगवान विष्णु ने सती के 51 टुकड़े कर दिए थे। जो पृथ्वी के अलग-अलग भागों में जाकर गिरे थे। इन्हीं में से सती माता का योनि भाग यहां आकर गिरा था। यहां पर मंदिर में चट्टान के बीच बनी आकृति देवी की योनि को दर्शाता है। जिसके पास में एक झरना मौजूद है। योनि भाग से जल धार हल्की बहती रहती है। श्रद्धालुओं की मानें तो इस जल का पान करने से हर प्रकार के रोग एवं बीमारी दूर होती है।
यह लगता है अम्बुबाची का मेला, देवी के मासिक धर्म के कारण लाल पड़ जाता है कपड़ा-
सिद्ध शक्तिपीठ कामाख्या देवी मंदिर पर हर साल अम्बुबाची मेला लगता है। इसी दौरान यहां का पानी का रंग लाल पड़ जाता है। पानी का लाल होना कामाख्या देवी के मासिक धर्म के कारण होना बताया जाता है। इसलिए तीन दिन तक मंदिर के पट (द्वार) को बंद कर दिए जाते है। इन तीन दिनों के बाद द्वार खोल जाते है तो यहां लाखों की संख्या में श्रद्धालु भक्त दर्शन करने पहुंचते है। देवी के मासिक धर्म से गिले हुए वस्त्रों को प्रसाद के रूप में वितरित किया जाता है। इस गिले कपड़े को अम्बुबाची कहते है। इसलिए मेले का नाम भी अम्बुबाची दिया गया है।
तांत्रिकों के लिए बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है कामाख्या देवी, पशु की बली देकर करते है प्रसन्न-
सिद्ध शक्तिपीठ कामाख्या देवी मंदिर में ना तो आपको कोई प्रतिमा दिखेगी और ना ही कोई तस्वीर। यहां तो बस पत्थरों में योनि के आकार का भाग है। यह मंदिर अपने आप में एक बेहद ही रहस्यमयी और चमत्कारी मंदिर है। सिद्ध शक्तिपीठ कामाख्या देवी तांत्रिको के लिए सबसे महत्वपुर्ण देवी है। इसलिए यहां तांत्रिक अपनी सिद्धियां को प्राप्त करने के लिए आते है। तांत्रिकों के लिए काली और त्रिपुर सुंदरी देवी के बाद कामाख्या सबसे महत्वपूर्ण देवी है जो तांत्रिको को सिद्धियां प्रदान करने में सहायक है। जब व्यक्ति पूरी तरह तांत्रिक नहीं बनता जब तक वो कामाख्या के सामने मत्था नहीं टेकता है। नहीं तो देवी नाराज हो जाती है। यहां का तांत्रिक मेला अपने आप में रहस्यमीय है। इसलिए कामाख्या देवी मंदिर को सबसे शक्तिशाली मंदिर माना गया है। यहां पर बकरे या भैंसे की बलि देकर भंडारा करने से कामाख्या देवी प्रसन्न होती है। इतना ही नहीं अगर किसी पर काला जादू या श्राप का साया है तो उसे यहीं से छुटकारा मिलता है।
