गेंद से छेड़छाड़ का मसला हाल में फिर से तब चर्चा में आया जब इस घटना से जुड़े कैमरन बैनक्राफ्ट ने एक साक्षात्कार में संकेत दिये थे कि संभवत: टीम के गेंदबाज गेंद की शक्ल बिगाड़ने के लिये रेगमाल का उपयोग करने की साजिश से वाकिफ थे।
साकर तब टीम के गेंदबाजी कोच थे। उन्होंने पूर्व में कहा था कि वह भी इस घटना के लिये जवाबदेह हो सकते हैं। इस घटना के कारण बैनक्राफ्ट, तत्कालीन कप्तान स्टीव स्मिथ और उप कप्तान डेविड वार्नर पर प्रतिबंध लगा था।
साकर ने स्थानीय मीडिया से कहा, ”मुझे इसको सार्वजनिक नहीं करने का कोई कारण नजर नहीं आता है, लेकिन वे इस मामले को कैसे संभालना चाहते हैं यह उन पर निर्भर करता है। ”
उन्हें गुरुवार को मेलबर्न रेनेगेड्स की टीम बिग बैश लीग का कोच नियुक्त किया गया।
