वरुण ने बुधवार (15 दिसंबर) को बेंगलुरु के आर्मी कमांड अस्पताल में दम तोड़ दिया। हेलीकॉप्टर दुर्घटना में वह अकेला जीवित व्यक्ति था जिसमें चीफ ऑफ डिफेंस स्टाफ जनरल (सीडीएस) बिपिन रावत और 12 अन्य की मृत्यु हो गई थी। वरुण सिंह को लाइफ सपोर्ट सिस्टम पर रखा गया था और उनकी हालत गंभीर बनी हुई थी। उन्हें पिछले गुरुवार को तमिलनाडु के नीलगिरी जिले के वेलिंगटन में सैन्य अस्पताल से बेंगलुरु के एचएएल हवाई अड्डे पर लाया गया था।
भारतीय वायु सेना (IAF) ने ट्विटर पर कहा, “IAF को बहादुर दिल ग्रुप कैप्टन वरुण सिंह के निधन की सूचना देते हुए गहरा दुख हुआ है, जिन्होंने 8 दिसंबर, 2021 को हेलीकॉप्टर दुर्घटना में घायल हो गए थे। IAF गंभीर संवेदना और खड़ा है। शोक संतप्त परिवार के साथ।
