नई दिल्ली: राष्ट्र ने आज ब्रिगेडियर लखविंदर सिंह लिद्दर को विदाई दी, जिनका बुधवार को भारतीय वायुसेना के एक हेलिकॉप्टर दुर्घटना में निधन हो गया। उनका अंतिम संस्कार दिल्ली छावनी के बरार स्क्वायर श्मशान घाट में हुआ जहां उनका अंतिम संस्कार पूरे सैन्य सम्मान के साथ किया गया।

ब्रिगेडियर लिडर के परिवार में उनकी पत्नी और बेटी हैं। प्यार से ‘टोनी’ कहे जाने वाले लिद्दर दूसरी पीढ़ी के सेना अधिकारी थे और उनकी जड़ें हरियाणा के पंचकुला से थीं।

राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा सलाहकार अजीत डोभाल, सेना प्रमुख जनरल एमएम नरवने, नौसेना प्रमुख एडमिरल आर हरि कुमार, एयर चीफ मार्शल एवीआर चौधरी ने भी बरार स्क्वायर श्मशान घाट पर श्रद्धांजलि दी। इस मौके पर हरियाणा के मुख्यमंत्री मनोहर लाल खट्टर भी मौजूद थे।
ब्रिगेडियर लिडर ने सीडीएस जनरल बिपिन रावत के रक्षा सहायक के रूप में त्रि-सेवा सुधार पर बड़े पैमाने पर काम किया था। वह जनरल रावत की टीम के एक महत्वपूर्ण सदस्य के रूप में सेवा करने के बाद अपनी अगली पोस्टिंग की तैयारी कर रहे थे और जल्द ही मेजर जनरल के रूप में पदोन्नत होने के लिए तैयार थे।
उन्होंने हायर कमांड और नेशनल डिफेंस कॉलेज के पाठ्यक्रमों में भाग लिया था। दिसंबर 1990 में, ब्रिगेडियर लिद्दर को 2 जम्मू कश्मीर राइफल्स में कमीशन दिया गया और बाद में उसी बटालियन की कमान संभाली।

बुधवार को तमिलनाडु के कुन्नूर के पास एक हेलीकॉप्टर हवाई दुर्घटना में चीफ ऑफ डिफेंस स्टाफ जनरल बिपिन रावत, उनकी पत्नी मधुलिका रावत और 11 सदस्यों की मौत हो गई। रूसी निर्मित Mi-17V-5 हेलीकॉप्टर के कोयंबटूर के सुलूर एयर बेस से उड़ान भरने के तुरंत बाद यह दुर्घटना हुई। ब्रिगेडियर लिडर उन 13 सदस्यों में से एक थे जिन्होंने अपनी जान गंवाई थी।
