वर्ष 2017 में प्रैक्टिस करने के लिए आर्मी सेंटर पुणे से आर्मी कोटा से पैर लगवाया लेकिन प्रैक्टिस के दौरान बार-बार यह पैर टूट जाता था। दो साल में प्रशिक्षण के दौरान 200 से ज्यादा आर्टिफिशियल पैर टूटे। पांच लाख रुपये की लागत से जर्मनी से पैर मंगवाया छह महीने उसको सैट होने में लग गए। घाव हो गये, उसी दर्द से निकला एक संकल्प जैवलिन थ्रो में वर्ल्ड रिकॉर्ड बनाते हुए गोल्ड मेडल दिला गया है। सुमित रीढ़ की हड्डी की चोट डॉक्टर ने सलाह दी कि जैवलिन थ्रो किया तो कमर पैरालाइसिस हो जाएगा। 2018 में इंडोनेशिया में सुमित को गुरु वीरेंद्र धनखड़ ने फिजियोथेरेपी की तरह 7 से 8 घंटे जमकर प्रैक्टिस करवाई और उसके मनोबल में वृद्धि हुई कि फिर कभी कमर का दर्द नहीं हुआ।
